So we start at the beginning...

So we start at the beginning...

Hello and welcome to my first blog! So, I thought I would start by introducing myself and why I am starting this blog in the first place! I have been blessed to be a mom to 2 sons with autism for forever (which is what my son says for a long time!), and a daughter who is twin to my youngest one. It really has only been 20 years, and oh what a journey it has been. They have taught me so many life lessons and I am the better person for it! Way better!
This is me and my awesome kids!

I want to share what I have learned over the years and see if I can help moms who are just starting out with autism to not have to learn by trial by fire as I did. And also to know that there is hope! So, here we go....

I have been a Marilyn Monroe impersonator for over 20 years and it afforded me the opportunity to be at home with my children most of the time. Children with autism need a lot of support in the early years and that usually happens at home. There have been some amazing therapies that have appeared since our journey began. I always hope and pray for more advances to happen as autism grows at an alarming rate - it is now 1 in 50 (new stat as of March 20, 2013) according to the CDC (http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/index.html) - this is an epidemic that we need to get a hold of! This is where the nutrition comes in. It is the single greatest therapy that my boys have experienced.  The crazy thing is that I discovered it by accident. I was looking to help Corwyn lose a much needed 50 lbs and I was trying everything out of concern that he was gaining a couple pounds a month and we were having to buy him new clothes constantly to keep up. I was trying everything I could find and a friend shared the RESET program with me.

Needless to say, this is the one that worked! But what I didn't expect was the welcome bonus that Corwyn started to talk to us. I mean really talk to us! I did not have a conversation with my son until he was 16 years old. Our kids need nutrition and supplementation - well we all need it - everyone in my home is now healthier, but wow, it showed up the most with the boys. Random went from struggling in school to getting his Academic Achievement jacket! Corwyn used to have aides that helped him get through his school day and now both boys are in college studying Digital Gaming & Simulation. I cannot say enough what a gift it was that Corwyn needed to lose weight and we found USANA (www.healthforlifenow.usana.com) Through helping him lose 50 lbs, we found nutritional therapy! I wish I had known all those years before about it and now it is my passion to help others to learn about the therapy I feel has helped them the most! It has also helped me to continue to do Marilyn! I have now outlived her by 10 years and am still going strong! :D
Here is a blog that I found that I explains autism quite well (http://aweoutofautism.blogspot.com/2010/06/autism-101-interview-with-dr-sandra.html) and I love that she is taking the awe out of autism. Let's all do what we can to help these kids (and adults) to live with their autism the best way possible and to have an incredible quality of life and thereby improving the quality of their families as well.

Love, JOY & Peace,
Kristy
